The Girls of E3 2011

I’ve never REALLY wanted to go to E3 before. I received an invite a couple of years ago but I think even with the invitation I still had to pay to get in (hundreds of dollars). After watching this video I am wishing I had attended!

Mortal Kombat Legacy: A Mortal Kombat Miniseries

Mortal Kombat Original logo
I recently heard about a website called Machinima. They specialize in making video game related videos. I clicked a link from their website expecting some sort of fan made videos with scenes from different Mortal Kombat games. Instead, I found an actual live-action mini series! Apparently it’s licensed by Warner Brothers. Michael Jai White is Jax, Sonya Blade is played by Jeri Ryan, Tahmoh Penikett plays Striker. Baraka, Kano, Kitana, Meleena, Shao Khan, Sindel, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Sub Zero and Scorpion are also portrayed in the series. So far there have only been 8 episodes and I have definitely enjoyed them.

You can watch the episodes for free on Youtube: here. When you’re done watching the episodes you can snag some cool Mortal Kombat collectibles at great prices from my eBay listings below:

The Mighty Thor: Movie Review

Well I just got back from Thor. I’ve been jazzed to see this since I saw his hammer at the end of Iron Man 2. Note: there is more to see after the credits of Thor so stick around. I had never read much Thor when I collected comic books. I started right around the time that Thor was gone/dead/missing and Eric Masterson had to take over. I don’t remember the stories now since that was 20 years ago but I do remember liking it. Even so, that was really the origins of Thunderstrike, not Thor.

From what I know about Norse mythology, the Asgards were not too badly portrayed. Growing up, I had been under the impression that Loki was the god of mischief. Later in my college years, I was told that Loki was the Norse god of fire but he was also a very clever god, responsible for helping the other gods obtain many of their relics. There was no mention of a god of fire in the movie.

Over all the movie was better than I expected it to be. I’m not sure if I liked it as much as I did Iron Man, though it has to be close. Iron Man has been one of my most favorite of the new comic book movies. Natalie Portman gets more gorgeous every time I see her. I can’t rate her ability to act because every time she smiles on screen I’m too busy swooning. Idris Elba was pretty cool as Heimdal. I was impressed with his character Stringer Bell in the Wire (horribly boring show) as the drug deal who goes to college to learn more about business. I also recently watched the first series of Luther, a show Idris stars in over in the United Kingdom.

Over the last six months I’ve been dealing with a vendor that sells licensed Marvel t-shirts. I’ve got a few Thor shirts and some of them are really bad ass. You can see them on eBay:

Thundercats are coming back, Thundercats are loose!

Yes my friends, it’s true. There will be a new Thundercats cartoon series. I, like many of you, have been waiting impatiently for the rumored live-action movie. It looks like there really is a Thundercats cartoon series in production. The trailer for the new series was released at Wondercon but it looks like it’s fairly hard to find online as the WB seems to be shutting them down. I found it posted on Youtube but who knows how long it will be here.

They gave Lion-O some Goku-hair which I guess is the style of all the popular animated icons for the last 15 years. Unlike the numerous fan fiction movie trailers over the years. This is actually legit. It’s coming to Cartoon Network sometime in July and IMDB has it on their website as well.

I do hope the dialogue is better than the original. Don’t get me wrong, as a kid Thundercats was the greatest cartoon show ever. But going back as an adult and watching the DVDs. Oh my there was some horribad dialogue!

And now for some preview pictures. You can click the picture to view it full size:

The only question I’m still wondering is will the Cosmocats be revived in French-speaking countries as well?

Cool Mortal Kombat Imports From Argentina

So I was browsing eBay to see what kind of cool Mortal Kombat swag might be up for sale. A seller from Argetina had a couple of cool items up for sale.

The first is a Mortal Kombat figure made by Jocsa. From doing a little bit of research on the web, I was able to find out that Jocsa is a licensed distributor for Galoob.

So here’s what the Jocsa Sonya Blade action figure looks like:

Obviously the quality is not as good as the Hasbro or Toy Island figures are. This seems to be typical of most of the South American action figure I’ve encountered. If you look at the picture of the card back you’ll see Kung Lao and Mileena are available figures. Those interest me very much because there were no GI Joe size figures of those characters made in the USA. This is the first time I’ve seen the Jocsa brand Mortal Kombat figures so I’m guessing they are all fairly hard to come by at least in the United States. The listing for the Argentine Sonya is not an auction but a buy-it-now listing so if you want to see if it’s still available: click here. The current asking price is $34.90 and it’s being listed by a Top Rated Seller based out of Argentina. I have never purchased from them before so I can’t vouch, though I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them if the price was right.

The other MK item from Argentina I found is a Mortal Kombat Sticker Albummpt=[CACHEBUSTER]“>. It appears to have art from the movie, TV series as well as the games. That is being sold by another seller and their current asking price is $38.

Finally, I did a search just for All Jocsa Toys on eBay and found quite a few results. Micro Machines, Terminator figures, Street Fighter action figures (the Hasbro GI Joe figures), Rambo, The Real Ghostbusters and Police Academy. Police Academy especially amuses me because I remember the cartoon well and I can only imagine how that translated in another country.

The true find in the Jocsa search that blew the rest away was the Rambo vs The Terminator figure. Sly Stallone vs Arnold Schwarzenegger! How cool is that?

CromartieHighSchool.com It’s mine!

So after watching Cromartie High School the anime series, I wanted more. So I began googling for more. Along the way I saw that no one owned CromartieHighSchool.com and I thought that was weird. So since I’m a fan I went ahead and started a fan site there.

At the moment I have not done too much with it. I’m pretty busy. I considered putting up character profiles and such but all of that is available already on wikipedia.

I’d really like to find some unusual collectibles for Cromartie and share the pictures on the website. Anyone got some cool Cromartie High swag?

Axis Powers Hetalia Character Popularity List

So for the past few months I’ve been selling pencil bags with characters from Axis Powers Hetalia, a webcomic and anime series. I have not actually watched any of the episodes yet but wikipedia describes it as: “an allegorical interpretation of political and historic events, particularly of the World War II era, in which the various countries are represented by anthropomorphic characters.”

The pencil bags I’ve been selling are designed to look like envelopes with each country’s flag as a stamp. The characters from the show are also on each bag. Some have sold much faster than others and I thought I would share my list here to see how it compares to those who’ve seen the show and have their own favorite characters.

Here is the list starting with most popular:

England/United Kingdom (this guy is by far the most popular)
Canada
Austria
America/USA
Italy
Norway
Germany
Japan
Sweden
Finland
Switzerland
Poland
China
Cuba

Don’t ask me what makes Cuba and China so unpopular. Perhaps they are not mentioned much on the show. Then again, these 14 must all have fans in their own right if they were the ones chosen to be on bags. Also, the most requested country which I do not have a bag of is Russia. I also had some phone straps and keychains with Hetalia characters as well. So far I am having trouble finding other Axis Powers Hetalia collectibles but I am trying.

I hear there is a movie now too so I definitely need to get started watching this show.

Cromartie High School

I just finished watching Sakigake! Cromartie High School. It was an amusing anime. It was a shame that there were only 26 episodes made. Especially since the episodes were less than 12 minutes each including the intro and ending songs.

Some of the jokes were dumb but others really had me laughing hard. For favorite character, I am torn between Takenouchi Yutaka and Mekazawa Shinichi. Much of the plot and the humor is absurd, so you have to suspend belief in reality to really appreciate the show. Of course that probably goes without saying if you are aware that one of the students is a gorilla and the other a robot.

I’ve got a Mechazawa plush toy available in my eBay store and he’s pretty sweet looking. My only beef is that they gave him his second button and on the series, he’s missing that button.

I also want to mention that I watched the show with English dubbing. I will very rarely do this because most of the time the voice actors are disappointing and the dialog is sometimes changed entirely. In the case of Cromartie High School, I found the voice actors did a fine job and the dialog was pretty close to the subtitles.

Halloween Horror Nights XX/20 Event Map Guide

Are you going to HHN at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida this year?

Want to know where everything is? Well I’ve got picture of the event map up for your viewing pleasure:

I also sell the maps on eBay if you are a collector. I don’t recommend buying these if you are planning to go at a later date this year because the times may be different for shows. Though the houses and scare zones never move.

I went to HHN last night and the houses were fun as always. I was disappointed with the Bill & Ted show. 2007 and 2009 sucked, 2006 and 2008 were great. So I assumed 2010 would be awesome. I was wrong. I’m stunned that Avatar was not even hinted at! I was glad to see a certain someone return to the show. Sorry, I won’t spoil it by saying who.
