The Guild Season 3, Finnsmulders.com and H2CO3

So I was watching season 3 of “The Guild,” a very enjoyable Youtube TV show about people from a MMORPG and their lives in and out of the game. It’s a really great show. In one of the episodes, they made a reference to www.finnsmulders.com and it turns out they have made the web page in real life as well. I love when TV shows and movies do that. Browsing the site I went ahead and peeked at the source code and found some cool messages as well as a link to Axis of Anarchy the fictional guild run by Wil Wheaton’s character. This is the second time I’ve seen him playing an antagonistic character and he’s done really well (the other show being Big Bang Theory). I look forward to seeing him in more things.

The other cool thing about finnsmulders.com was the music. I googled some of the lyrics but couldn’t find the song. I found some sites for The Guild with people inquiring about the name of the musician with no luck. Well I continued digging. The name of the song is H2CO3 and the singer is NRAN. You can checkout NRAN’s MySpace page and you’ll find H2CO3 as well as other songs available to download for free. I’m getting the rest of the album as I write this. If anyone was looking for the song from finnsmulders.com then check out that MySpace page and enjoy!

StarCraft II coming soon!

Starcraft II beta testing begins this month and although Blizzard hopes for a “mid 2010″ release, I am guessing it won’t be out before October. It wouldn’t be a Blizzard game if there were not multiple delays.

You can expect the value of the already scarce Starcraft collectibles to jump in value once the new game is released. Snag a few now before the prices rise:

What does “pitspoes” mean?

I recently googled the word “pitspoes” hoping for some clarification of the word. Since I’m not a die hard racing fan, I would have no clue. A more informed friend says that pitspoes refers to the girls who go gaga over race car drivers when they win. Pitspoes a Dutch (or Flemmish) word.

Hope that helps anyone confused!

The Restless

I have only seen about a dozen Korean movies. Until two days ago I was not impressed. I am not one to give up on a country though just because of a few bad movies. The U.S. has thousands of bad movies.

The Legend of the Shadowless Sword (2005) is the first of the two movies that I really enjoyed. The second movie was The Restless (2006). The Restless was my favorite of the two. The Netflix synopsis reads:

After his beloved fiancé is killed by demons, Yi Gwak (Woo-sung Jung) joins the royal demon-hunting squad and distinguishes himself as a great hero. And though Yi eventually falls in battle, his adventures are just beginning.

That’s really just the back story. Yi Gwak ends up in a place called Midheaven which is a realm between worlds where spirits go for 49 days before they are reincarnated. Yi Gwak, however, is not a spirit but a living human. An evil rebellion is afoot and Yi Gwak must stop it.

The special effects were special for sure. I watch a lot of foreign movies and good special effects are rare. I would not say the movie out did Zu Warriors, but it was a respectable challenger. If you are looking for a good sword fighting movie with an interesting story then I definitely recommend “The Restless.”

Ikkitousen Wall Scrolls

As of writing this post, I now have 324 wall scrolls listed on eBay. My most recent additions include:

Ikki Tousen aka Battle Vixens
Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Final Fantasy

I’ve been getting some really awesome wall scrolls. The bad thing for me is that I live in a small apartment and I want all of these hanging up but I don’t have the room. Someday I’ll have the wall space for a bunch of these though.

I was able to get the new Final Fantasy Necklaces listed as well.

Travian: The Natars Are Coming!

Whispered rumors echo through the villages, containing legends told only by the best of storytellers. They concern the Natars, Travian’s most fearsome warriors. It is every hero’s dream to slay them, every soldier’s goal. No one knows how the Natars grew to be so powerful, their soldiers so fearsome. Determined to discover the source of their power, an elite group of scouts is sent out to spy. They return a few hours later with terrified faces and wild theories: it seems the Natars’ power comes from mysterious items they call artefacts, which they had stolen from your ancestors. Manage to steal the artefacts, they say, and you can steal their power.

The time has come to reclaim the artefacts. Conspire with your alliance and assemble your warriors to retrieve these coveted objects. However, the Natars will not give the artefacts up without a fight… and neither shall your enemies. If you can manage to successfully repossess the artefacts and fend off your enemies, then you will be able to reap the rewards. Your buildings shall become incredibly strong and powerful, your troops much faster and more crop-efficient. Seize the artefacts, bring glory to your empire, and become the new legends for your successors.

(Story by Cryptid_Hunter)

On July 31, 2009 the Natars will go live on .com server 7. This should make the next couple of weeks pretty exciting.

Travian

So I’ve been playing a game called Travian lately. It’s fun at times. It’s a free browser game in the war game/strategy genre. When you start out the game is a bit boring as you are building up your village and waiting (lots of waiting) for construction to finish. After about a week though the game gets to be a bit more fun.

There are a variety of servers to play on. Some servers are country specific while others are international. I opted to play on an international server as I enjoy diversity and chatting/playing with people from around the world is one of those things that still makes the internet feel magical. Each server game lasts for 1 year and then the servers are reset. This is the type of game that you really only have about a month of tardiness before joining late becomes a death sentence. Luckily servers are starting/ending at different times.

The game itself is simple: survival and conquest. As you build up your villages you research and train new military units. Through conquest and exploration you gain more villages which in turn allow you to build an even larger military. Meanwhile, thousands of other players are attempting to do the same thing.

There are 3 races: Romans, Gauls and Tuetons. Romans are the “well-rounded” race while Gauls are supposed to be superior defenders with Tuetons as the superior offensive race. I opted to play as a Gaul but as an aggressive one. So far things have gone well. The server is 3 months in and I’m already one of the top 400 players as well as a member of the top alliance on the server.

The one drawback I find in the game is that to succeed, you really need to devote a lot of time to playing the game. I can log into my account hourly and there is always something to be done. The casual player can still have fun playing although growth will be slower and there may be more challenges competing with more active players.

There are a lot of 3rd party websites devoted to Travian and quite a few have created useful tools for aiding the Travian player. I’ll be reviewing some and adding links soon.

Check out Travian today!

Mario Levels of Death!

So a guy in Japan was able to modify Super Mario World to make the game very difficult.? How difficult?? Insanely!? His friend is an incredible player and took up the challenge.? You can watch the video here:

For more Mario fun there is also:

Mario Frustration I think that is the from Mario the Lost Levels. Take note, the guy playing likes to use the F-word, a lot!

With a rap This is someone else clearing the Lost Levels in one life. There is a mario rap in the background with some explicit lyrics.

Aero Fighters for the Super Nintendo

Every so often I see an old game for sale that commands over $50 in price and I ask myself, “why?” Why is this 10 or 20 year old game so much more than the others that sell for $5-10? There’s been a couple of games that I’ve tried and they are not that much fun. Aero Fighters is a SNES game that I’ve seen end for $200 or more frequently on eBay.? I had never played the game before.? I had always been curious.? Well today I managed to get a cartridge and fire it up.? I must say I was impressed.? For those that don’t know, Aero Fighters is one of those games where you are in a plane flying on the screen shooting stuff and trying to survive.? Raiden and 1943 are two similar games that come to mind.? McO’River added a little bit more to Aero Fighters to make the game stand out.? For one, you can choose from 4 pilots from either the USA, Japan, Sweden or the United Kingdom.? Each of these four pilots has their own goals.? This game is also two player which is neat.? I beat the game on easy mode (stop laughing) and at the end I was instructed to enter something on my keypad at the character select screen however I didn’t write it down.? Perhaps this is for hidden characters or some other Easter egg feature.

If you are looking for a nice copy of the game, I have one available here
