It was a pretty entertaining series although not the greatest. The story had some interesting elements. Heroes from history are summoned by mages to battle for the Holy Grail, an item that gives the winner of the competition one wish for both the master and the summon. My only real complaint for the show was that the origin of the Holy Grail as well as the competition was never explained. We learn that the show takes place during the 5th competition and that the 4th competition took place 10 years earlier.

I was reading up on the story on Wikipedia and it turns out Fate/stay night is only part of the original story and there are a few video games as well.
